Mineral Makeup Ingredients: L'Oreal True Match Naturale Review

I've been using L'Oreal True Match Naturale since I was 16 years old, on and off throughout the years. Last weekend I went to Target to buy another bottle, $10.99, including tax. But today something sparked my interest, what is in the makeup I use? Is it safe? Does it have cancer? Common questions these days since everything seems to have cancer. I'm usually very cautious when applying anything to my face, body, inside body, EVERYTHING. But, I never thought to research what ingredients are in my daily foundation, thinking it's healthy because its mineral, that is until today...

As I was researching the ingredients, I came across two reviews specifically on my foundation, on a website named ewg. Here is what I discoverd, L'Oreal True Match Naturale Makeup Sunscreen, Soft Ivory 456, SPF 19 and L'Oreal True Match Naturale, Sunscreens 2012. Another article I found generally about cosmetic brands is what linked me to the website ewg, Top 8 Safe Cosmetic Brands in 2010, although 3 years old it is still very informative.

The product was labeled a 2 meaning low hazard but I'm still weary of the other concerns and ingredients in it: Other HIGH concerns: Biochemical or cellular level changes,Multiple, additive exposure sourcesPersistence and bioaccumulation;Other MODERATE concerns: Contamination concernsOrgan system toxicity (non-reproductive)Occupational hazardsOther LOW concerns: CancerData gapsEcotoxicologyIrritation (skin, eyes, or lungs)

You're probably thinking, oh my gosh who gives a shit, we only live once and lets use whatever we want, we're going to die someday anyway. Honestly, I think that sometimes too, but I really don't want to die somewhat young because of what was used in makeup lol. It seems most mineral makeups have many chemicals in it. Of course you're not going to die using mineral makeup for the first time but overtime it will take in effect with illnesses.

It's definitely going to be a mission to find a organic, matching foundation for myself again. I have a yellow/olive undertone with VERY fair/pale complected skin. If you're not alarmed by this and you want to try this product, you're a gangster lol, I have some pros & cons for you.

PROS
Long lasting - Lasted 3-4 hours without touching up
Natural look - Everyone and random people would ask me what makeup I'd use, said it looks very natural

CONS
Packaging - It is a BITCH, you take the top off and there is holes the makeup comes out of. Very irritating because it pours out when making the slightest movements and your makeup is wasted. Don't carry it in purses it will be everywhere when you open it
Application - You have to apply a heavy amount if you have noticeable blemishes/sudden breakouts
Application #2 - It can be very drying if you don't apply moisturizer before applying
Application #3 - After 3-4 hours it starts to crease around nose area and the face starts to look like fish scales/cracked skin
Application #4 - If you have a olive/yellow undertone with fair/pale skin, I advise you to think about using this because it turns your face pink, not orange. I would blend until I couldn't anymore to match my face and neck lol
-->Seems to have more cons lol, I stuck with this because it was the only foundation that somewhat matched my skin tone.

{The last article I found is from 2011, quantified by the Enviromental Working Group's Skin Deep Cosmetics Database, here are selections for the 9 Best Mineral Foundations.}

I hope this post made you think twice about makeup! Just remember to be cautious when choosing any makeup. This is just my opinion from my personal experience. Everyone's skin is different.

Xoxo,

Alaina

wow, I NEVER thought of my makeup that way. maybe bc I don’t really use a lot of it, but even a moisturizer should probably be checked for hazardous ingredients. Thanks for pointing this out.
